AI Guide For Kids – LLM Chatbot

It seems everyone is talking about artificial intelligence (AI) these days. But what is it? AI makes machines, such as computers or robots, seem smart. A computer that is powered by AI learns by gathering and processing information, similar to how you learn by reading books or listening to your teachers.

AI-based assistant bots such as Apple’s Siri, Google’s Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa have been around for years. These apps are designed to answer questions and perform tasks such as turning lights on and off when asked. Recently developed, more advanced chatbots, such as Copilot and ChatGPT (short for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer), have human-like conversational language abilities.

.

“Generative” chatbots use two main techniques known as “machine learning” and “deep learning” as they continue to gather new information and interact with humans. These types of chatbots are also known as Large Language Models (LLMs) can be used in all sorts of cool ways, from translating languages to making video games more fun.

JUST AS YOU WOULDN’T ASK A FRIEND TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK FOR YOU, A CHATBOT SHOULD NEVER BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR DOING YOUR OWN WRITING AND RESEARCH. ALWAYS USE YOUR OWN WORDS, AND LOOK FOR INFORMATION FROM VARIOUS SOURCES, SUCH AS BOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY OR INTERNET WEBSITES.

.

While AI is clever, it’s not perfect. As the new LLM-type chatbots are still learning, they may give strange, incorrect or incomplete answers. All computer programs need humans to input the correct information and make sure the output is accurate. Always double-check your information with other sources. AI is a helpful tool, but it’s important to seek guidance from teachers or parents on using this exciting new technology responsibly.
